Materials:
– Worsted Weight Yarn. I used Loops & Threads Impeccable in Aran, Lavender, and Amethyst.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Abbreviations:
How to Make the Cluster V-Stitch PLEASE NOTE that I only made one chain in my cluster v-stitches instead of 2 chains.
DC = Double Crochet
SC = Single Crochet

Finished Size: approx 36×36 inches
Starting with Lavender yarn
Chain 113 (93 for smaller and 133, 153, or 173 for larger.)
Row 1: Cluster V-stitch in 4th chain from hook, *skip 2 chains, Cluster V-stitch in next chain, repeating from * the rest of the way down chain, DC in the last Chain, Chain 3, turn.
Row 2: Cluster V-stitch in each of the Cluster V-stitches from previous row, DC in last chain of your chain 3, Chain 3, turn.
Row 3: Same as Row 2.
Row 4: Same as Row 2 with Aran color yarn.
Row 5-6: Same as Row 2 with Amethyst color yarn.
Row 7: Same as Row 2 with Aran color yarn.
Row 8-10: Same as Row 2 with Lavender color yarn.
Continue to repeat pattern.
Your color changes should look like this:
3 rows of Lavender, 1 row of Aran, 2 rows of Amethyst, 1 row of Aran.
I made a total of 7 dark purple stripes. A total of 52 rows. Fasten off and weave in all ends when finished.

Shell Stitch Border: Starting in the middle of the purple stripe on the rough edge.
Rough edge is where you see the color changes. Smooth edge is the top and bottom where the stitches are all in purple.

Join yarn and make a SC, now reaching your hook to the corner, make 7 DC in the corner. Now working on smooth edge. Skip one Cluster V-stitch and SC to join to middle of next Cluster V-stitch, *make 7 DC in the next Cluster V-stitch, SC to next Cluster V-stitch, repeat from * down smooth edge. Make 7 DC in the corner.
Now you will be working on the rough edge. Your shell stitches will only be on the Aran color stripes. SC in the middle of lavender row, 7 DC all in one stitch on the end of Aran stripe, SC in the middle of Amethyst row, 7 DC all in one stitch in the Aran stripe, SC in the middle of Lavender row, repeat down edge.

Continue shell stitch along remaining two edges following instructions for rough edge and smooth edge.
