crochet snowflake pattern
I’m excited about the possibility of a white Christmas in my hometown of Seattle, Washington! The thought of my kids seeing little white flakes inspired me to design a little crochet snowflake pattern… and just in case the forecast is wrong, they still will have “snow!” Made with worsted weight yarn and an H hook, this crochet snowflake actually sturdy enough to use as a decoration without having to block it or stiffen it. Don’t let the pattern intimidate. It’s actually made up of of the basic stitches and chains. Once you get the hang of it and memorize the pattern, you can easily make dozens!
Materials:
– White Worsted Weight Yarn.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
Abbreviations:
SC = Single Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
Crochet Snowflake Pattern:
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 6 SC in ring, join
Round 2: chain 3 + DC in the first stitch, *DC + chain 1 + DC in next, repeat from * around, join to second chain in chain 3.
Round 3: slip stitch over to chain space, chain 2 + HDC in space, chain 2, *HDC + chain 1+ HDC in next chain space, chain 2, repeat from * around, join to top of chain 2.
Round 4: slip stitch into to chain 1 space, *chain 4 and slip stitch to join back into same space you started, chain 6, slip stitch into next HDC chain space, repeat from * around, join
Round 5: slip stitch into chain 4 space, *chain 2+ DC + chain 1 + DC + chain 2 and slip stitch to join back to chain 4 space, chain 2, slip stitch to join to middle of chain 6 space, chain 2 and join with slip stitch to next chain 4 space, repeat from * around. Join, fasten off.
I’ve been working a second version of this snowflake so stay tuned to see how else it can be used and transformed!
